LAKE EILDON

Map of Lake Eildon – Google Maps

Lake Eildon is a huge expanse of water situated near mansfield in the alpine region of Victoria. This very large impoundment is fed by three large rivers and boasts exceptional fishing year round for many species including Golden Perch, Murray Cod, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and Redfin. In the wintertime the trout fisherman have a ball catching big brown and rainbow trout but when the spring warmth comes along, it’s the golden perch that are the key attraction. The dam also holds a large population of murray cod which regularly give anglers targeting golden perch a big surprise.

Get to the point!

October is the perfect time to fish at Eildon, the golden perch become numerous and active often schooling up in high density on many of the protruding rock and clay points scattered throughout the lake. Some anglers do exceptionally well in October slow hopping Lipless Crankbaits and Jackall Mask Vibes through schools of fish that have been located using a sounder. There is also an unlimited expanse of standing timber cluttering many of the shorelines for those who prefer to stick to the trees to find their fish!

All anglers competing in the tournament are required to attend the briefing to receive vital information regarding the specifics of the competition, including their starting positions and a run-down of the session rules and regulations. There will also be opportunities to purchase and view new products from the competition sponsors at the briefing.

The Australian Yellowbelly Championships Round 7 – Lake Eildon is open to any team that wish to participate, there are no restrictions on boat size and kayak teams are also welcome to compete (two kayaks per team). Weigh-in & Marshalling

There will be a weigh in station located at the AYC marquee on the waters edge at Peppin Point Holiday park and an official AYC marshalling team on the water throughout each round to measure captures as they come in. If your team has fish in their live well and see the marshalling boat (Identified by an orange flag) please wave them over to your boat or move towards them as they may already be measuring another teams fish. We urge all teams to weigh in their catch every time they see the marshalling boat to ensure fish health.

Important note

Fish will not be counted towards a teams tournament score if they fail to swim away healthily after official measurement.

October is the Prime Time for Fishing at Lake Eildon

Lake Eildon, located near Mansfield in Victoria’s alpine region, offers exceptional year-round fishing. With its vast expanse of water fed by three large rivers, the lake is home to a variety of species including Golden Perch, Murray Cod, and both Brown and Rainbow Trout. October stands out as the perfect month to fish for Golden Perch, which become particularly active and often gather in dense schools. Anglers have great success during this time using techniques like slow hopping Lipless Crankbaits and Jackall Mask Vibes through these schools, especially in areas with prominent rock and clay points. For those who prefer timbered shorelines, Lake Eildon’s extensive standing timber offers endless opportunities to hook into quality fish.
